5 out of 5 stars The best toy on the market.   July 26, 2010
The Optimistic One
Wow, I don't even know where to start about Tamagotchis. First off, you need to experience it first if you want to go off bashing it. At a glance, Tamagotchi looks like some pixels for girls and "tweens", but in reality it's a lot more. I don't know if it's my experience with watching our soon-to-be pets hatch from an egg, but the first part of a Tamagotchi's life cycle just makes me chuckle. Once the Tamagotchi hatches, you'll have a constantly active little creature bouncing around on the tiny screen with an easily countable amount of pixels. You'll really start to enjoy your Tamagotchi just because of the raw time you spend with it. It's a toy intended to be like a pet, so don't dig deeper. Also, do you know any pet that plays games and becomes a rockstar without disturbing the real world? The toy itself is very durable. I have dropped, scraped, swung, and done many other things to my Tamagotchi (involuntarily, of course) and it could not be in better shape. Also, no one needs to have 2 Tamagotchis. It's unlikely that you can even put the Music Star version down before at least a few months. Even if you do, you can always go back to it. What I personally love about Tamagotchis is that they are simple on the outer layer but complex when explored. At times, I'm not even able to make my band happy at the end of a concert practice (door icon, "Away", middle/B button) and some of the games can actually get pretty hard at times. Don't get your hopes up that it will be like a Guitar Hero 3, but you can still enjoy it nonetheless. Also, Tamagotchis grow at a slow pace overall but during that period of time (3 days, may be 10 for other systems) many things happen quickly. Whether your Tamagotchi needs to poo, DID poo, needs to have more fun, etc., there is always something to do. Also, I may have forgotten to mention that there are smaller parts about Tamagotchi as a whole like the shop, strange items, and ridiculously amazing amounts of concert money, and more. This game is fun because it also takes me back to the black-and-white pixelated games that I find (on Google when I'm bored). It also proves a somewhat educational experience for the younger children, but it's just fun. Also, I like the selection of backgrounds. As a guy, I would hate having a pink Tamagotchi. There is a wide variety of types, patterns, and colors to choose from as well as many different versions of Tamagotchi. I just recommend you avoid Tamatown. It's ok, I guess. If you're five. Tamatown is very unlike the toy and is extremely childish. Thanks for reading and I hope you will be able to have as much fun using the Tamagotchi as I do.

5 out of 5 stars Pick up and go kind of fun   April 28, 2009

I owned the first Tamagotchi back when Bandai released it in the US in 1997. The overall formula has not changed much, but everything else is very new. My fiancée bought the Glam Rock version of this toy, and I bought the Techno Groove version. They are all intrinsically the same toy but with different shell designs.

What I really like about the Tamagotchi V6 Music Star is the subtle micromanagement that is needed. It's good for three- to five-minute, manic bursts of taking care of your pet, then leaving it alone for three or four hours. The toy will beep at you about every two to four hours requiring some intervention, but otherwise, the virtual pets are quite happy by themselves, practicing their instruments or playing with their toys. They may get a visitor at the door occasionally, or they may get sick. So many things can happen to the Tamagotchi. You will see something new almost every day, be it a new school, instrument, or friend to play with. I think its biggest strength of this newest Tamagotchi is the pause feature; just press and hold A, then press B to pause the Tamagotchi. It will not beep, age, get sick, poop, feel hungry, or feel unhappy. You can also turn off the sound; press and hold A, then press C. I also like the feel of the actual unit; it is not unlike the original Tamagotchi. I really disliked the fake antennas that were on the previous versions.

My biggest complaint with this toy is the buttons. Sometimes, the buttons are hard to press and your presses do not always register. An extra firm press usually satisfies the hardware. It took some getting used to.

Great product!
